Italian native Marco De Cecco brings more than 10 years of experience to the culinary scene. At the helm of the Prego culinary team is our Chef De Cuisine Chef Marco De Cecco. A graduate in Civil Engineering from a leading institute in Udine, Italy. Chef Marco now leads his Prego culinary team at The Westin Kuala Lumpur in meeting the same exacting standards.
With over 15 years of culinary, food and beverage experience and acquaintance under his belt, Marco has an extensive resume that traversed him across the different continents of the world and today he joins the Prego culinary team at The Westin Kuala Lumpur as the Italian chef de cuisine.
Growing up in his grandparents’ restaurant, that is where Marco’s dream to make culinary a part of his life started. His inspiration in cooking comes from the nature, the world around him. He was inspired by the little things from nature for the love he has for his passion.
Marco started his culinary journey in his own grandparents’ restaurant, Trattoria De Cecco as a Co Chef and Manager. It was a great beginning and jumping stone in his culinary career to gain the experience from the place where his dream started from. After relishing the journey for 12 years in his motherland, he decided to expand his passion in cooking in different continents.
Having a strong passion for food, he continued his food journey at FB International Tripoli, Libya. From managing events, setting up VIP area for ministers to planning and directing the food preparation, Marco served as a Corporate Executive Chef for almost 6 years. Without an end there, he flew to South Asia to enhance his food skills and continue his life dream.
A major career milestone is when Marco joined Capri Singapore as the Head Chef 2015 since Capri is recognized as one of the top 10 Italian restaurants in Singapore where you will find authentic Italian cuisine. On the road again, from Singapore finally make a move to Kuala Lumpur, end 2019.
Diners at Prego can look forward to a new and enhanced menu of exquisite Italian fare, specially curated by Chef Marco himself such as his signature dish, potatoes gnocchi. Maintaining Prego’s favorite dishes on the menu, he reengineered them with an introduction of new flavors as he is a firm believer in letting fresh and high quality ingredients speak for themselves. Allow him to bring on a culinary journey as he going to showcase his best dishes in Prego like no other.
While pursuing his career, Marco has won several achievements which proven his talent as an excellent chef as in managing his team and restaurant. One of the major highlights of his achievements are in 2016 when he won Top 5 Singapore Best Italian Restaurant. Followed by that, he too won Diamond award ad Foodmania Award in 2017. The recent award was Best 70 Restaurant with Pizzaria in the world during 2018.
